A Symbol of Goodwill Towards All

The Korean American Cultural Committee (KACC) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization with four key goals:

1) To bring awareness to the issues affecting the Korean-American;
2) To encourage the participation of Korean-American in all aspects of American life;
3) To educate our children about our Korean heritage and culture; and
4) To reach out to the American community.

Since Cho Sun Dynasty King KoJong’s initial diplomatic mission to the United States in 1883, the first shipload of Korean immigrants aboard the S.S. Gaelic, arrived in Hwaii to work on the pineapple and sugar plantations. They endured hardships with hopes of a better future. Even under the financial constrains, they supported the country that gave them life, by donating more than half of their earnings for the Korea’s Independence Movement, while emphasizing the need to cultivate and educate their next generation of hope and life.

It is this undying spirit of our first Korean immigrants, which represents the essence of our Korean-American heritage today. And it is this Korean-Americans within this region towards the diverse communities in which we live.

Your Support is Vital

As the first major undertaking of our organization KACC, we are planning on building a goodwill landmark, which will be gifted to Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and the great people that make up this community and the surrounding areas. This act of goodwill is not only to recognize the Korean-Americans development and history within the greater Washington D.C. area, but also to recognize and to celebrate the importance of the diverse people and the city, which made out history within this region possible.

As which, we envision a contemporary Korean Bell pavilion modeled after a traditional Korean architecture, placed in a park-like setting where all can freely access and enjoy the beauty that will hold this landmark. Moreover, this landmark will be useful in reaching out to our second and third generation Korean-American youths, in addition to the general public.

Accordingly, as we are in the midst of our grass-root funding stage through active solicitations from individuals, corporations, as well as various charity events, we ask for your support! Such a vision cannot bear fruits unless the entire Korean-American community partakes in a joint cooperative effort with Northern Virginia, City of Vienna, and other government/regulatory agencies.

미국의 수도권인 워싱톤 지역에 모여 사는 25만의 한인들은 서로 간에 끈끈한 유대관계를 유지하며 미국 주류 사회의 각계 각층에서 다양하게 실력을 인정 받고 있습니다. 미국 연방정부에도 많은 한인들이 공복으로써 자랑스럽게 미국에 기여하고 있으며, 수도권 일대의 한인 상권도 빠르게 성장하여 수도권 경제에도 큰 영향을 미치고 있음으로 이곳 주류 사회의 주목을 받고 있습니다. 이러한 한인 사회의 눈부신 성장과 함께 일년에 수천만명이 방문하는 미국 수도에 한국의 문화적 우수성을 알릴 수 있는 기회를 찾던 중, 한국문화를 알릴 수 있는 공원형 조형물을 만들어 지역사회에 기여하고한인사회 구성원 모두의 자긍심을 높이기 위해서 한국문화조형물 건립 위원회를 발족하였습니다. 이 공원형 조형물 사업은 미국 속에 우수한 한국문화를 심고 한인들이 미국 주류사회에서 인정 받을 수 있고, 더불어 주류사회와 동등한 주인의식을 고취할 수 있도록 하는 역할을 할 것입니다. 이러한 뜻있는 역사적인 한국 문화 조성사업에 한인들 서로가 한마음이 되어 동참한다면 더욱 의미있고 위대한 일이 될 것입니다. 이사업에 한인 한 분 한 분이 적극 동참하셔서 코리안 벨 가든을 건립합시다.

이 곳 워싱톤의 한국 역사는 1883년 대한제국 보빙사절단의 첫 방문부터 시작되었습니다. 따라서 2009년까지는 126년 이라는 역사를 가지게 됩니다. 이에 한국문화 조형물 건립위원회에서는 워싱톤의 역사적 배경을 바탕으로 126건립위원회를 구성 126명이 구심점이 되어 지속적인 모금 활동과 설립을 계속 추진 할 방침입니다. 부디 뜻이 있으신 많은 한인 동포들의 적극적인 참여로 워싱톤에 한민족의 얼을 빛낼 수 있는 문화 상징물을 건립하는데 적극 참여합시다.
